Are You Having Fun Yet?

kicking-guyThe saying goes “if you’re not having fun, then you’re doing it wrong.” It’s usually associated with sex. It can also easily be associated with life in general. Two of my favorite blogs have talked about having fun and laughing this week, which helped to remind me why I do what I do.

Creativity guru Roger von Oech’s post [1] Have Fun! offers up this wisdom from Heraclitus, the world’s first creativity teacher:

Those who approach life like a child playing a game, moving and pushing pieces, possess the power of kings.

He also discuses three examples of how this strategy can get the creative juices flowing.

Jason Kotecki - cartoonist, speaker, and all-around guy I’d like to be if I wasn’t me - has a wonderful post called [2] Make Me Laugh, that did just that:

So it’s been said that the average kid laughs around 400 times a day. When it comes to laughing, the average kid kicks the butt of the average grown-up, who laughs about 15 times a day.

He includes a hilariously cute video of a baby laughing one of the best belly laughs I’ve ever heard.

As we head into the weekend, think about how fun and laughter play a role in your life and work. If it’s not a prominent role, then maybe it’s time to recast.

Because if you’re not having fun, then you’re doing it wrong.

Have a fun weekend!
