About This Place
What This Site Is
- Are you a home-based entrepreneur?
- Do you want to be?
- Do you want to do meaningful, fulfilling work, and achieve wealth on your own terms - all from the comfort of your own nest?
- Do you like your inspiration and advice served up with humor and cartoons?
Then, welcome, you’ve come to the right place…
This is a site for you to find helpful tips and advice on:
- discovering an entrepreneurial life that is meaningful for you
- designing a home-based business that utilizes your unique talents, passions, vision, and genius
- running your venture so it is in line with your values, personality, and view of the world
- sharing your experiences and hearing from other aspiring and veteran entrepreneurs
Though there are a lot of resources available, I’ve found that most are disorganized and hard to find, dry and boring, or thinly veiled pyramid or “exciting business opportunity” schemes and spam blogs. And who said that success, motivational, and business advice has to be so serious and boring? My goal is to provide a place that has good useful content, helpful resources, and (hopefully) will be funny and entertaining. Any successful venture has to have an element of fun. Otherwise it’s not really successful in my book.
Can you actually make a good living or even get rich from home? Yes. Especially if you’re doing something you love, that you’re good at, and that provides value. But success is much more than just monetary wealth. Making money is definitely part of it. Money won’t buy happiness, but it can provide freedom. The key to success is a balanced life, that makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning, and that is full of potential and possibility. It is my hope that I can provide you with some tools to help you achieve that success from your own nest.
What This Site Is Not
You won’t find any get-rich-quick stuff, pyramid or “enlist your friends and make them hate you businesses”, “home-business-in-a-box” franchises, or infomercial pitches promoting a Website that will help you make $10,000 a month (results not typical) from home. I’m not saying those methods are necessarily bad, but I won’t be talking about them here. Any quick Google search will return thousands of those types of sites, if that’s what you’re looking for.
About Me
My name is Tony D. Clark and I’ve had the privilege to be able to work from home for most of my working life - close to 15 years. I’ve been a work-from-home parent for 9 of those years. Throughout this time, I’ve given advice, shared resources, and helped others who were interested in working from home. I’m passionate about being free to live my life on my own terms, and doing fun and meaningful work, while having a rich and close-knit family life. That passion comes out when talking about working from home, and I love seeing and helping others make the leap.
When it comes to work, I’m…
- an entrepreneur, artist, writer, and designer.
- co-founder of Teaching Sells.
- a regular contributor to lifehack.org - a productivity and personal development blog.
- the cartoonist for Implementing Scrum - a site designed to help software teams with the methodology.
Realizing I worked much better with clients than with bosses, I began freelancing in my early twenties. That led to a jewelry design business, then to a Web design company, then to independent software development, instructional design, and then to building and running a small software company.
Helping others to become successful working from home is something I’ve been doing in some fashion for a good portion of my life, so I thought now’s a good time to do it in a more organized way.
I live in North Carolina with my wife, 3 daughters, and 3 dogs.
About the Cartoons
My cartoons and humor are a part of who I am, so it just seems natural to use them to illustrate my work. I think of it as a spoonful of humor to help the lessons go down.
The cartoons are drawn and inked on paper, then scanned in for coloring. I use GIMP and Fireworks to color and produce the images.
You can see some of my paintings in my Flickr account
Feel free to use the cartoons as long as you adhere to this Creative Commons License, and let me know you’re doing it.
About the Inner Workings
I’m one of those people who love finding out about how folks are doing stuff, so for fellow curious explorers, here’s some of what this site is made of.
The site has WordPress under the hood and the logo, design, and coding was done by me. The WordPress theme was designed in FireWorks, coded by hand in HomeSite, and used some elements of the default theme with inspiration for the header from the Wuhan theme.
The “Success from the Nest” wordmark uses the “GoodDog Cool” freeware font, designed by (in my opinion) one of the best font artists around - FontHead.
